Chris grew up in England and worked in the mining industry in South Africa and Northern Canada for several years before becoming a veterinarian. He is a 1986 graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. After graduation he worked in Williams Lake BC, Southern Ontario, and the U.K. before moving to Nelson in 1991. In 1999 he became a certified veterinary acupuncturist. He is an avid fan of Manchester United and the Cornish rugby team. His hobbies are sailing, squash and cycling.

Dr. Birgit Vierheilig

Birgit was born and raised in Germany. She immigrated to Drumheller, Alberta in 1976. Living on a farm there sparked an interest in veterinary medicine that culminated in her entering the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Saskatchewan. Following graduation in 1986, she worked in Ontario and the U.K. After travelling the world she moved to Nelson in 1991 and helped to establish the Selkirk Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Chart. They have three beautiful children, Tristan, Sebastian and Emma. The family has 3 dogs, 2 cats and 5 fish. Her hobbies are skiing, hiking, camping and sailing.

Dr. Kelly Fraser
|
Kelly joined our veterinary team in October 2005. She grew up in Kelowna, BC, graduated in 1995 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, and has been practicing in the Kootenays since 1997. Her hobbies include horseback riding, hiking, and obedience and agility training with her dogs. Kelly has 4 dogs-Breeze a chocolate Standard Poodle and Artemis, Brec and Devlin, all 3 Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Five cats keep the dogs on their paws. Bob is her outdoor barn cat that moved in on her property last winter. Spencer is a 16 year old that has been with her since fourth year of vet school. Annie is the 14 year old sweet girl that joined the family when Kelly and her partner Michael met. Boris the flame point Siamese cat arrived 2 years ago, adopted from the Nelson SPCA and finally baby Phoebe, the orange long haired tabby also from the SPCA who came home June 2008. Flash the 27 year old Arab and 6 chickens round out the farm.
