The Selkirk Veterinary Hospital offers 24-hour emergency care. During our regular business hours, emergencies are given priority. If your pet needs emergency care after hours, phone our hospital number and our answering machine will direct you. You will reach an answering service that is run by non-veterinary personnel. They will take your pertinent information - phone number, nature of the emergency, type of pet and then alert the Veterinarian on-call. The Doctor will then return your phone call and discuss your pet's condition.
If you feel that your pet cannot wait for the Veterinarian's phone call, please alert the answering service, give them an estimated time of arrival and find out which hospital is on-call (we share on-call emergency with the Nelson Animal Hospital). They will then alert the Veterinarian, who will meet you at the hospital. Please be aware that you will be waiting until the on-call veterinarian arrives so in most cases it is better to speak with the doctor first to arrange a meeting time.
